I’m pleased to announce that Smiling Cat Entertainment has been approached by Mobiroo, an app subscription service and promotional app distribution company. Mobiroo expressed an interest in adding Vintage Pachinko to its curated app library, making it available to their subscribers, and also making it available for wholesale purchase by promotional campaigns.
I could see nothing but upside for both Smiling Cat and Mobiroo from this deal. One of the main benefits, of course, is increased exposure for Smiling Cat. There are also other obvious upsides to potentially selling entire blocks of licenses, as one may imagine. From here, it should take about two weeks for Vintage Pachinko to actually be available through Mobiroo, and I look forward to being part of the Mobiroo family of developers, standing together with names like EA and Bandai Namco.
I wanted to get this week’s update out early, since I will be otherwise engaged this afternoon, and will have to cut my normal Smiling Cat workday short. Today I hope to get at least one new level created for EARL’s Warehouse: The Depot. It should be a fairly mellow puzzle, since it will likely immediately follow the hair-raising mini-boss level.
Earlier this week, I managed to squash a very annoying movement bug in EARL’s Warehouse that was due to floating point rounding. Thing was, I was already using best practices to avoid this type of bug. But alas, this best practice uses a magic number called Epsilon, and if this Epsilon number is too small, as is the case with Unity’s built-in Epsilon value, you run into trouble soon after your numbers go past 10. So if anyone has noticed an issue where you can’t jump when right up against a wall, rest assured it is fixed in The Depot. I only know of one place where it frequently occurs in the current version, but it was occurring more frequently in The Depot due to the larger level maps I am using.
The day is young, and there is level design to do. I think I’m finally starting to settle in to doing weekly blog updates, so I will be giving another update next week.
